چکیده

In this paper we propose a methodology for structured parallel programming using functional skeletons to compose and coordinate concurrent activities written in a standard imperative language. Skeletons are higher order functional forms with built-in parallel behaviour. We show how such forms can be used uniformly to abstract all aspects of a parallel program's behaviour including data partitioning, placement and rearrangement (communication) as well as computation. Skeletons are naturally data parallel and are capable of expressing computation and coordination at a higher level of abstraction than other process oriented coordination notations. Examples of the application of this methodology are given and an implementation technique outlined.

Explicit and implicit parallel functional programming: concepts and implementation

This thesis investigates the relation between the two conflicting goals of explicitness and abstraction, for the implementation of parallel functional languages and skeletons. Necessary and useful coordination features for implementing parallel coordination in a functional implementation language will be identified, leading to the proposal of a Haskell extension for explicit low-level coordinat...

Parallel Genetic Algorithm Using Algorithmic Skeleton

Algorithmic skeleton has received attention as an efficient method of parallel programming in recent years. Using the method, the programmer can implement parallel programs easily. In this study, a set of efficient algorithmic skeletons is introduced for use in implementing parallel genetic algorithm (PGA).A performance modelis derived for each skeleton that makes the comparison of skeletons po...

Cwmwl, a LINDA-based PaaS Fabric for the Cloud

— In this paper we introduce a new Platform-as-aService cloud environment that combines the LINDA coordination language, an in-memory key-value store, with functional programming to facilitate efficient execution of tenant plugins and applications. In the implementation a tuple space plays a central role in introducing deterministic services for basic parallel programming, including message pa...

Autonomous mobility skeletons

To manage load on large and dynamic networks we have developed Autonomous Mobile Programs (AMPs) that periodically use a cost model to decide where to execute. A disadvantage of directly programming AMPs is that the cost model, mobility decision function, and network interrogation are all explicit in the program. This paper proposes autonomous mobility skeletons that encapsulate self-aware mobi...
